You Can’t Force It

You Can’t Force It

You can’t force it, you can’t cause it
You can’t make it happen just because you want it
You can’t shape it out of dust
Metal can't be made of rust
Thoughts: you can't trust them, though you must
Allow your mind to be open, left unproven
Fledgling still nested, conscience untested
A moment arrested, and as for the rest, that's anyone’s guess

Switch to distraction, excuse the inaction
The moment has passed, leaving only
A lingering sense of dissatisfaction
Life goes on, the world keeps turning
And all you learn is, of that burning desire
To start a fire without a spark,
Prospects are stark, and for now
The light remains dark.
