Too Many Words To Describe

Too Many Words To Describe

Too many words to describe
What nobody wants to see
Apocryphal Inuit words for snow
But all that we have to show
Are legions of contorted phrasings
Creating a vocabulary
Of trauma uncontrived
We hardly need a list,
Because we are familiar
With how power-mad narcissists
Might want to take what isn’t theirs
It's part of our vernacular
To dissect our most human traits
The ways that we can state
The notion of celebrity
Publicist-created super-humanity
Who we can’t resist supporting,
Fanatically doting on
The heroes of today's front pages
Even as we know who pays
The greater part of all their wages
Yes, we have words for all of this
Our parlance filled, with reason
Given how we owe our own
Continued, thriving existence
Falling up without a care
Knowing that support
Will still be there
Only by our language
Are we betrayed
The words we say, or choose not to
Hold the key to how we got to
Where we are.
