Detachment

Detachment

There's something to be said
About burying your head
Playing on while Rome burns
Blinking at catastrophe
Weaving Armageddon
Into life's more superficial twists and turns
And so, you walk among the dead
Traipse the virtual mortuary
Distant voyeurism into another's plight
Albeit that the chasm filled with faraway despair
Isn't quite aligned with your line of sight
Disaster unfolds, directed by remote control
Split-screens onto screams
Detached, you latch onto a face
Fleetingly steering near embrace
Of where once was a soul
A momentary pause as you so nearly
Touch the shattered peace of another
Then it too disintegrates
Fragments, pieces
Lost in the maelstrom of tickers and head noise
Weak against the bleak
Attracted by distraction
The moment for empathy is gone
Life makes its way, beyond
The anguish of elsewhere
And you
Have already
Moved on
