Close Your Eyes

Close your eyes, what do you see
A crimson sunrise, looking out to sea
Sunlight on water, and in the distance
A tall sail, maybe

Close your eyes, cross the line
Break with the now, step out of line
Wrench away from the humdrum
But day to day, loose ends remain undone

Close your eyes, and what becomes
Of what is real, and what still might succumb
To the glowing dark beyond
A momentary peace, so close, now gone

Close your eyes, with fading hope
You might connect, but the lines are choked
Clouded by what cannot now be pushed aside.
Moment passed, gone by the by.

Close your eyes, and… nothing.
