All That I Hope
All that I hope
All that I hope is that, somewhere beyond
The realms of our thinking
New truths, new factors are still to be found
Connections between what we know to be real
And what is still seen as profound,
New places that science has yet to uncover,
As yet, undiscovered to even the sharpest of minds
All that I hope is that, somewhere between
The places we’re seeking
Deep within vacuums that might form in a jar
In between spaces, where nothing exists
But where the deepest of secrets still are
Maybe somehow, we’ll develop a measure
To capture the factors that thus far remain undefined
All that I hope is that, in between notions
That colour our dreaming
Of quantum effects, or atomic motion
Or unexplained forces which keep our feet planted
Or anti-particular sources of data
Could it be that, with the right mathematics
We might map the unknown, thence clearly signed
All that I hope is that one day, when all this is done
And I am a memory
When my broken body is long past,
Dismantled and gone
That perhaps, the tiniest part of my essence
Might, against the odds, have maintained a presence
That even the most carefully tuned of machines cannot find
All I hope is, the tiniest tendril
The smallest of memories, somehow pervading
A gossamer thread, nonetheless still-pertaining
To the one I once may have been
Might wend its own way to the infinite river
Of collapsing stars, of aeons-wide channels
Formed between galaxies, dark-matter flows across time
All I hope is, maybe, that single filament
Through some random sequence, evading
The nihilism of probability
Might swirl, even briefly, in the cosmic current
And perhaps, in that infinitesimal moment,
Albeit too small to appear on any equipment
Could find itself, once more, in the presence of yours, intertwined.
